The General tab of the Lesson Details page is shown below followed by an explanation of each entry.  Once a lesson has been graded, you can not change the Grade Achieved or the Completion Code.  If these were incorrectly entered, you must ungrade the lesson to enter the proper values.  The other fields can be changed by the instructor initially grading the lesson until such time as the course is completed or another instructor updates the lesson by entering an additional comment.  Other instructors can add additional comments to the lesson or update the time spent working with a student in the Remediation time entry.

Grade

  • Required - Display only field showing the grade that is required for the lesson.
  • Achieved - The grade the student attained on the lesson.  When initially grading the lesson the allowable grades will vary based on the type of the lesson.  A non-standard grade requires supporting objective evidence and a supporting comment.  Any grade less than the required grade will result in the lesson being reassigned as a remedial lesson.
  • The most common grades and their general usage are:

    • E - The student performed at an exceptional level.
    • P - The student is proficient .
    • T - Training is still required.
    • U - The student's performance was unsatisfactory.

Other common grade systems are the Q1, Q2, Q3 grades for evaluations, and P/F for a simple pass or fail.  CBT lessons also may have a numeric grade indicating the students performance on the test for the lesson.

Completion

  • Code - Complete should normally be selected when initially grading the lesson.  Incomplete can be chosen when, through no fault of the student, the lesson could not be completed.  In this case, the student's performance for the portion of the lesson that was accomplished should be entered under the Grade Achieved and the objectives performed graded on the Objectives tab.  The objectives not able to be completed should also be indicated on the Objectives tab.  It is also best to provide a comment regarding the cause of the incomplete.
  • Date - This will default to the scheduled completion date and time if the lesson was scheduled or the current date and time if not scheduled.  In either case, this should be changed when grading to reflect the actual date and time training was completed.

Graded/Last Updated

  • By - Displays the name of the person initially grading or last updating the performance.
  • Date - Displays the date and time of the initial grading or last updating of the performance.

Times

  • Prebrief - This defaults to the planned number of minutes for the prebrief portion of the lesson.  It should be updated to reflect the actual minutes spent in the prebrief.
  • Lesson - Initially displays the total number of minutes planned for the lesson (this includes prebrief, postbrief, and any time in a resource).  It should also be updated to reflect the total minutes actually used for the lesson.
  • Postbrief - Default is the planned number of minutes for the postbrief portion of the lesson.  It should be updated to reflect the actual minutes spent in the postbrief.
  • Remediation - This will default to 0.  If any time is spent providing additional coaching or other assistance on the lesson for a student, the number of minutes spent should be added to the value shown.

Other Entries

  • Resource - The planned or scheduled resource is displayed.  Normally there is no need to change this field.  On occasion, for example, you might be forced to use a WST for training that was scheduled for a CSS.  In this event the resource should be changed to a CSS to reflect what was actually used.
  • Mission - This field is not used in the TMS.  It is intended to identify the type of mission or even the actual mission number for a lesson.  It is for informational purposes only.
  • No Notice Evaluation - Also not used in the TMS and available for informational purposes.
